About us
The Old School Rooms is one of Clitheroe’s hidden gems – a friendly independent bar alongside a busy function and events space.
Our main bar is open four days a week, while our function room hosts everything from weddings and birthday celebrations to live music and private events throughout the week. We also serve our own food and sharing plates, as well as catering for functions.
It means we’re not your typical pub – and no two shifts are necessarily the same.
The role
We’re looking for friendly, reliable Bar & Catering Assistants to join our team.
This is a varied hospitality role, so we’re looking for people who are happy to get stuck into different areas of the business. On one shift you might be behind the bar, on another you could be waiting on at a wedding or helping with food service and basic kitchen preparation.
You’ll be part of a small, friendly team, so being willing to muck in and help each other is much more important to us than having years of experience.
Hours are predominantly evenings and weekends, although we try to be as flexible as possible when arranging shifts. The role can work particularly well alongside college, university or another job.
What you’ll be doing
Your shifts could include:
- Serving drinks and providing friendly, attentive customer service
- Waiting on and serving food in our bar and/or function room
- Basic kitchen and food preparation
- Supporting weddings, parties, live music and other private events
- Taking payments and cash handling
- Restocking and maintaining a clean, organised bar
- Clearing tables and keeping customer areas welcoming
- Speaking to customers and occasionally dealing with telephone enquiries
- Helping the wider team wherever needed during busy shifts
About you
We’re looking for someone who:
- Is friendly, confident and enjoys talking to people
- Is reliable and turns up ready to be part of the team
- Is happy working across bar, food and events rather than wanting to do just one role
- Can use their initiative and spot what needs doing without always needing to be asked
- Is comfortable working in a busy environment
- Is well presented and a good communicator
- Is available for evening and weekend shifts
- Is aged 17 or over
Previous bar, waiting-on, catering or hospitality experience would be useful, but it isn’t essential. We’re happy to train the right person with the right attitude.
