This fixed-term research post in lung cancer is aimed at post-foundation, pre-specialty trainees (F2–IMT3) and is based in the Academic Respiratory Unit at North Bristol NHS Trust, with an honorary University of Bristol contract. The unit is internationally recognised, with expertise in pleural disease, thoracic malignancy, airways disease, respiratory infection, and interstitial lung disease. It works closely with clinical services delivering lung cancer clinics, MDTs, pleural services, interventional procedures (e.g. EBUS, thoracoscopy), and the regional lung cancer screening programme. The fellow will join a multidisciplinary academic team (consultants, registrars, and an Academic Foundation Doctor) and a dedicated clinical lung cancer service. The role includes involvement in research projects, clinical trials, and data analysis, with a focus on early lung cancer diagnosis. Clinical work will be supernumerary for training purposes and include participation in lung cancer and pleural two-week-wait clinics and MDT meetings.
Develop research skills around data analysis and interpretation
Lead on local recruitment to respiratory infection trials
Lead on research studies exploring pathways to early diagnosis in lung cancer using existing datasets
Attend and present at academic conferences and educational meetings, nationally and internationally
Write scientific manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals
There are no on-call duties or out-of-hours work associated with the post.
