Company Overview
Luminaire is a London based creative production company, founded in 2017. We deliver bespoke, full service production for corporate and private events at venues across London and beyond, combining technical production (lighting, audio, video, power and rigging) with scenic design and build, all handled in house. That combination is what sets us apart, most companies in our space outsource one side or the other, we do both under one roof.
Job Summary
We're looking for a CAD Draughtsperson & CNC Operator to join our scenic workshop. You'll turn design concepts into precise, buildable drawing packs, then operate our flatbed CNC router to cut the parts yourself. It's a role for someone who wants to see a drawing through from concept to finished build, not hand it off and move on.
Duties
- Produce detailed CAD drawings and drawing packs for scenic builds, from concept through to construction ready output
- Work with project managers and designers to translate design intent, site surveys and client requirements into accurate, workshop ready drawings
- Prepare cutting files and nest parts efficiently for our flatbed CNC router, minimising material waste
- Set up, operate and maintain the CNC router, including tooling changes, test cuts and routine maintenance
- Carry out material take offs and work with the project management team on quantities and costings
- Keep drawing packs and file naming consistent with our template and version control system
- Support on site as required for measure ups, installs or technical queries relating to your drawings
- Maintain a safe, tidy CAD and CNC working area, following all relevant health and safety procedures
Skills
- Proven experience producing technical drawings for scenic, set, exhibition or joinery based construction
- Confident CAD skills, we're open on software, including AutoCAD, Vectorworks, SketchUp, LayOut or similar
- Hands on experience operating a flatbed CNC router, from file preparation through to cutting, knowledge of V-Carve is benefitial.
- A good understanding of sheet materials, joinery methods and how drawings translate into buildable parts
- Comfortable working to tight deadlines across several live projects at once
- A methodical, detail focused approach and pride in accurate, well organised drawing packs
Salary and location
Salary range of £38,000 - £42,000. Full time, based at our London workshop, with occasional early starts, evenings or weekends around build and show dates.
