Role Purpose
The Pre-School Room Leader is responsible for leading the pre-school room, ensuring the highest standards of care, education, and safeguarding for children aged 3–5 years. You will inspire your team to deliver engaging learning experiences in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), whilst maintaining a safe, stimulating, and inclusive environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership and Management
- Lead, motivate, and support the pre-school team to deliver high-quality childcare and education.
- Act as a positive role model, promoting professionalism and best practice.
- Organise daily routines and ensure appropriate staff deployment.
- Support the induction, mentoring, and development of team members.
- Work closely with the Nursery Manager and Deputy Manager to maintain excellent standards.
Child Development and Learning
- Plan, implement, and evaluate stimulating activities based on the EYFS framework.
- Monitor children's learning and development through high-quality observations and assessments.
- Ensure every child has an individual learning journey that reflects their progress and next steps.
- Support children to become confident, independent learners who are ready for school.
Safeguarding and Welfare
- Promote the safety, welfare, and wellbeing of every child at all times.
- Follow all nursery safeguarding, child protection, health and safety, and behaviour management policies.
- Ensure risk assessments are completed and maintained.
- Administer first aid where appropriate and respond effectively to emergencies.
Parent Partnerships
- Build strong, positive relationships with parents and carers.
- Provide regular feedback on children's development and wellbeing.
- Support parent meetings and contribute to transition arrangements for school.
Team Responsibilities
- Lead regular room meetings and contribute to staff meetings.
- Support practitioners in planning, observations, and assessments.
- Monitor room standards, resources, and learning environments.
- Promote teamwork, respect, and open communication.
Compliance
- Ensure the room consistently meets EYFS and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Support inspections and quality improvement initiatives.
- Promote equality, diversity, and inclusion throughout the nursery.
Person SpecificationEssential
- Level 3 Early Years qualification (or above).
- Previous experience working within an early years setting.
- Experience leading or supervising a team.
- Strong knowledge of the EYFS framework.
- Excellent understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
- Good communication and organisational skills.
- Passionate about delivering exceptional childcare and education.
Desirable
- Paediatric First Aid qualification.
- Safeguarding training.
- SENCO knowledge or experience.
- Experience preparing children for school transition.
