Position - Site Rail Shunting Locomotive Operator
We have an exciting opportunity for a Rail Shunting Locomotive Operator based at Tata Steel, Shotton.

The Role
Working as part of a site-based team, you will support the safe and efficient movement of rail carriages within the site. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating on-site locomotives and will be required to demonstrate a strong commitment to train driving and track safety.
This is a physically active, hands-on role requiring reliability, teamwork, and strict adherence to health and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate on-site locomotives using cab control methods to carry out efficient rail shunting operations.
- Safely move rail carriages and cargo within the facility to meet operational requirements.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures relating to train driving and track safety.
- Conduct pre-operational checks on locomotives and ensure they meet the required safety standards before commencing any shunting activities.
- Promptly report any locomotive malfunctions or defects and assist with routine maintenance activities as required.
- Work collaboratively with other members of the team to ensure smooth and safe rail shunting operations.
- Maintain effective communication with colleagues and our customer at all times.
Safety, reliability, and customer service are central to this role.

- Has previous locomotive operating experience or transferable skills suitable for working with locomotives.

- Is physically fit and comfortable working in an industrial environment.
Package Offered
- Full-time, permanent position.
- 40 hours per week, with overtime as and when required.
- Rate of pay: To be confirmed, depending on experience.
- 30 days annual leave, inclusive of bank holidays.
- Company pension scheme (auto-enrolment).
- Full PPE and uniform provided.
- All necessary training provided, including Personal Track Safety (PTS).
Pre-Employment Requirements
All successful candidates will be required to complete:
- Drug and alcohol screening.
- Company induction and safety training.
