Job Purpose
The Deputy Service Manager will support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day management and development of domiciliary care and supported living services. The postholder will assist in ensuring the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care and support, promote positive outcomes for service users, maintain compliance with regulatory requirements, and provide leadership to care and support teams.
The role requires experience within both domiciliary care and supported living services, with a strong understanding of safeguarding, care planning, quality assurance, staff supervision, and regulatory compliance.
Key ResponsibilitiesService Delivery and Quality Assurance
- Support the Registered Manager in the planning, coordination, and delivery of high-quality domiciliary care and supported living services.
- Ensure services are delivered in accordance with individual support plans, risk assessments, and organisational policies.
- Monitor service quality through audits, observations, spot checks, reviews, and feedback from service users and stakeholders.
- Assist in developing, implementing, and reviewing personalised care and support plans to ensure they meet individual needs and desired outcomes.
- Promote person-centred approaches that encourage independence, dignity, choice, and inclusion.
Leadership and Staff Management
- Provide day-to-day supervision, guidance, and support to care and support staff.
- Assist with recruitment, onboarding, induction, and retention of staff.
- Conduct staff supervisions, competency assessments, spot checks, and performance reviews.
- Support the delivery of training and professional development programmes to ensure staff maintain the skills and knowledge required for their roles.
- Promote a positive working culture focused on quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Compliance and Regulatory Responsibilities
- Support compliance with Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards, safeguarding requirements, health and safety legislation, and relevant employment regulations.
- Ensure accurate and up-to-date records are maintained in line with regulatory and organisational requirements.
- Assist with investigations relating to incidents, complaints, accidents, safeguarding concerns, and medication errors.
- Monitor medication management processes to ensure safe administration and compliance with policies and procedures.
- Participate in audits and quality improvement initiatives to maintain service excellence.
Service User and Stakeholder Engagement
- Build positive relationships with service users, families, advocates, healthcare professionals, commissioners, and external agencies.
- Participate in assessments, reviews, and care planning meetings.
- Support service users to achieve their personal goals and maintain independence within their homes and communities.
- Promote effective communication between all parties involved in service delivery.
Operational Responsibilities
- Assist with rota management and workforce planning to ensure safe staffing levels are maintained.
- Support the efficient allocation of resources and management of service delivery requirements.
- Participate in the on-call rota as required.
- Assist the Registered Manager with occupancy, referrals, assessments, and service development activities.
- Contribute to business growth and continuous service improvement initiatives.
Person SpecificationEssential
- Experience in a supervisory or management role within domiciliary care and/or supported living services.
- Sound knowledge of adult social care legislation, safeguarding procedures, and CQC regulations.
- Experience in care planning, risk assessment, medication management, and quality assurance.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes.
Desirable
- Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (or equivalent).
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care, or willingness to work towards it.
- Experience supporting individuals with learning disabilities, autism, mental health needs, dementia, and complex care requirements.
- Previous experience within supported living services.
- Previous experience in domiciliary care management
