Salary: £11,499 per year for 16 hrs pw
Hours: part time over 3 days - 16hrs hours per week
Contract: Fixed term until 31 March 2030 (Potential for extension)
Essential Requirements (Must Meet to Apply)
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of proven outdoor work experience in all weather conditions.
- Technical Skills: At least 2 years of practical DIY, property repairs, or general maintenance experience.
- Grounds Care: Practical experience in gardening, landscaping, or public grounds maintenance.
- Health & Safety: Understanding/ appreciation of risk assessments and safe working practices.
- Flexibility: Absolute reliability to work alternate Saturdays in summer to help with day time stage for live music.
About the Role
Hereford BID Ltd is seeking a proactive, reliable, and hands-on Outdoor Maintenance Operative to keep Hereford city centre clean, safe, and visually appealing for businesses and visitors.
This is a highly varied public realm role combining street cleansing, environmental maintenance, graffiti removals etc.. You will work independently for long periods as a part-time assistant to deliver visible improvements across the city, answering to the lead handy person.
Key Responsibilities
- Environmental Cleansing: Perform high-pressure jet washing, chewing gum removal, graffiti removal, and deep cleaning of public pavements and tight urban spaces.
- Grounds & Floral Maintenance: Assist the summer irrigation schedule for city hanging baskets and planters alongside weeding, pruning, and deadheading.
- Civic DIY & Repairs: Execute minor property repairs, painting, fixture installations (including hanging basket brackets at height).
- Event Support: Assist with the logistical setup, assembly, and dismantling of public event equipment, gazebos, and public stages.
- Stakeholder Liaison: Act as a professional, friendly ambassador for the BID when interacting with city-centre business owners and the general public.
