About Us: Forte Engineering is one of the UK’s trusted partners for electrical, mechanical, telecoms, and design & construction engineering. We deliver multi-disciplinary projects across the UK rail network, as a Principal Contractor, and in collaboration with Tier 1 contractors and supply chain partners.
We are currently seeking an experienced M&E Estimator to join our growing commercial and pre-construction team. The successful candidate will support bids, tenders, quotations, and project cost planning across rail infrastructure, station, depot, and wider construction environments. This role requires strong technical knowledge of mechanical and electrical works, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to produce accurate, competitive, and compliant estimates.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review tender documentation, drawings, specifications, schedules, employer requirements, and scope information to identify M&E pricing requirements.
- Prepare accurate labour, plant, material, subcontractor, and preliminaries estimates for mechanical, electrical, telecoms, and associated infrastructure works.
- Produce detailed bills of quantities, take-offs, cost build-ups, clarifications, qualifications, and tender submission pricing documents.
- Engage with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain compliant quotations, compare returns, and ensure value-for-money solutions.
- Liaise with the design, operations, procurement, commercial, and project delivery teams to assist the bid writer to develop robust technical and commercial proposals.
- Identify tender risks, exclusions, assumptions, opportunities, and value engineering options at an early stage.
- Attend tender handover meetings, site visits and mid-tender reviews as required.
- Support post-tender clarifications, negotiations, tender interviews, and project handover to delivery teams.
- Maintain estimating records, benchmarking data, supplier/subcontractor pricing information, and lessons learned for future bids.
- Ensure all estimating activities comply with company procedures, client requirements, and relevant industry standards.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- Previous experience as an M&E Estimator, Electrical Estimator, Mechanical Estimator, or similar role within construction, rail, infrastructure, or building services.
- Good working knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, including LV power, lighting, containment, small power, distribution, HVAC, plumbing, fire alarm, communications, and associated infrastructure installations.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, schematics, schedules, and tender documents.
- Strong commercial awareness with the ability to build accurate and competitive cost estimates.
- Experience obtaining and analysing supplier and subcontractor quotations.
- Excellent numeracy, attention to detail, organisation, and time-management skills.
- Confident user of Microsoft Excel and estimating/commercial software.
- Ability to work under pressure to meet tender deadlines while maintaining accuracy and quality.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with internal teams, clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.

Pay: £35,000.00-£45,000.00 per year
