Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Purchasing & Stock Control Manager to take responsibility for the purchasing, stock control and availability of materials used within our uPVC window and door manufacturing operation.
The main responsibility of the role is to ensure that production has the correct profiles, reinforcement, hardware, components and consumables available when required, maintaining production continuity and preventing delays caused by material shortages.
You will be responsible for managing purchasing and stock using our current systems and processes, but we are also looking for someone with the experience and knowledge to review how we currently operate, bring forward new ideas and introduce improvements where appropriate.
You will manage and work alongside our Factory Stores & Stock Assistant and will have overall responsibility for the control, accuracy and availability of stock within the factory.
Principal Responsibilities
- Take responsibility for ordering profiles, reinforcement, hardware, components and consumables required for production.
- Ensure orders are placed in line with production requirements, supplier lead times and agreed SLA's.
- Monitor upcoming production requirements and ensure materials are available ahead of manufacture.
- Identify potential shortages early and take action before they affect production.
- Maintain appropriate minimum and maximum stock levels and reorder points.
- Maintain accurate stock records and investigate stock discrepancies.
- Manage regular stock checks and cycle counts.
- Take overall responsibility for the organisation and control of the factory stores.
- Manage and support the Factory Stores & Stock Assistant.
- Ensure incoming deliveries are checked against purchase orders and delivery documentation.
- Deal with shortages, incorrect deliveries, damaged materials and supplier returns.
- Monitor slow-moving, obsolete and excess stock.
- Work closely with production management to understand material requirements and changes in demand.
- Liaise directly with suppliers regarding orders, availability, shortages and lead times.
- Use and maintain the company's existing purchasing and stock management systems.
- Review existing stock control and purchasing processes and recommend practical improvements.
- Introduce agreed improvements to increase stock accuracy, visibility and efficiency.
- Ensure stores and stockholding areas remain organised, controlled and compliant with Health & Safety requirements.
Skills and Experience
Previous experience within uPVC window and door manufacturing is essential and applicants without this experience will not be considered.
Candidates should have:
- Previous purchasing and/or stock control experience within a uPVC window and door manufacturing business.
- Good knowledge of uPVC profiles, reinforcement, window and door hardware, components and consumables.
- Experience ordering materials against factory production requirements.
- A good understanding of supplier lead times and their impact on production.
- Experience managing stock levels, reorder points and stock accuracy.
- An understanding of window and door manufacturing production cycles.
- Experience using purchasing, stock control or manufacturing systems.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Excel.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- The ability to identify problems early and take action before they affect production.
