A welcoming primary school in Haringey is seeking a caring, resilient and dedicated Pastoral Mentor to join its team from September.
This is a full-time, short-term opportunity for someone passionate about supporting children’s emotional wellbeing, confidence and engagement in school. The successful candidate will help pupils overcome barriers to learning and feel safe, valued and ready to succeed.
The Role
- Providing pastoral and emotional support to pupils across the school.
- Building positive, trusting relationships with children.
- Supporting pupils with confidence, self-esteem and emotional regulation.
- Helping children manage social, emotional and behavioural challenges.
- Encouraging positive behaviour and engagement with learning.
- Delivering 1:1 and small-group mentoring sessions where required.
- Supporting pupils both inside and outside the classroom.
- Working closely with class teachers, the SENCO and the wider pastoral team.
- Monitoring pupils’ wellbeing and sharing relevant updates with staff and families.
Pastoral and learning mentor roles commonly involve supporting pupils’ emotional and behavioural development alongside classroom engagement and access to learning.indeed+1
The Ideal Candidate
- Previous experience working with children in a pastoral, mentoring, education or support role.
- Understanding of social, emotional and mental health needs is desirable.
- Calm, patient and nurturing approach.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Confident supporting children with behavioural or emotional challenges.
- Resilient, reliable and able to remain composed under pressure.
- Proactive approach and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- A genuine commitment to improving outcomes for children.
