As a Management Accountant, you'll play a key role in delivering accurate financial reporting and insightful analysis for the Water business. You'll lead the monthly management accounts close, prepare journals and balance sheet reconciliations, and ensure the integrity of financial data. Working closely with stakeholders, you'll provide meaningful commentary to support decision-making, drive process improvements, and help maintain strong financial governance and controls across the business.
Take a lead on the closing of Water Management Accounts as well as providing an assurance of numbers and insightful commentary for Leakage, OSCC, SCOPI and Water Networks Capex Reclass. Review the Water end to end processes and drive improvements together with the team members.
What you’ll be doing as a Management Accountant
- Support the Finance Manager by taking a lead on the closing of Water Management accounts as well as providing an assurance of numbers and insightful commentary.
- Perform reconciliations of various key control data including GL balances and supporting schedules including but not limited to accruals, provisions, prepayments and inventory.
- Prepare and review journal entries, looking to automate and eliminate where possible.
- Provide Insight into results during period end close to the FP&A and Business Partner teams, relating to the key cost drivers. E.g., Job volumes, Water Production levels.
- Working across the wider finance team to document, align and improve processes, to drive efficiency and consistency.
- Understand the Activity Based Costing model for Water Networks and be able to use this on a monthly basis for splitting operating and capital costs.
- Production and preparation of Water Networks Capitalisation audit in accordance with accounting standards and coordination of year-end audit as well complete the key accounting judgement paper.
- Production and preparation of Leakage regulatory table, including monitoring of external reporting requirements and researching accounting issues.
- Respond to ad hoc requests for analytics, through the agreed demand management framework to provide support to Business Partners for costs visibility, business case preparation and investigation into financial performance.
Base location – Hybrid – Clear Water Court Reading RG1 8DB
Working pattern – 36 hours Monday to Friday
Necessary requirements for the role - Accounting qualification (ACA, CIMA, CPA, CMA, CHAE or equivalent)

To thrive in this role, the essential criteria you’ll need is:
- Accounting qualification.
- Systems experience with SAP.
- Knowledge and understanding of IFRS, tax reporting.
- Ability to interact with leadership, key stakeholders, and employees.
- Excellent knowledge of financial statements.
- Attention to detail and the ability to summarise and present financial information clearly.
- Demonstrate thorough knowledge of accounting principles, systems, and procedures.
Extra qualities that would be a great fit for our team:
- Systems experience with HFM.
- Utilities industry experience.
