We are looking for a temporary part-time receptionist to cover for maternity leave. The hours available to work are between 8am and 6.30pm, Monday to Friday (to be agreed). Applicants must be willing to work flexibly to cover holidays and have good written/verbal communication skills.
You will become part of our busy reception team and strive to ensure our patients receive the best possible service from the Practice. Our receptionist team deal with all our day-to-day patient contact; handling all incoming calls, requesting appointments, enquiries and welcoming both patients and visitors into the surgery. We are looking for an enthusiastic, professional, and clearly spoken receptionist who would enjoy working within a busy GP surgery. GP Surgery experience is desirable, but not essential. However, customer/patient service skills are essential if joining our team at St Johns Group Practice. You should have good inter-personal skills, be able to respond sympathetically to queries and direct people appropriately. You should possess good administrative and organizational skills, and be computer literate, as the Practice is ‘paper light’.

Job summary:
Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient, and effective way.
Provide general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone
Job responsibilities:
Administration
- To have a thorough knowledge of all practice procedures.
- To work in accordance of written protocols
- Ensuring the smooth flow of incoming/outgoing mail
Reception
- Receiving patients consulting with members of practice team
- Handing completed repeat prescriptions to patient and checking names and address.
- Be able to cover all reception positions as necessary.
Appointments
- Process appointment requests for today and future appointments from patients by telephone and in person.
- Deal with home visit requests and telephone call backs
Computer
- Registration of new patients – computer data entry and medical records.
- Process patients change of address – computer data and medical records (have knowledge of practice area.
- Process repeats prescription requests in accordance with practice guidelines.
- Scanning post in medical records in accordance with practice procedure
- Email and photocopy as requested.
- General administrative duties
Telephone
- Have working knowledge of telephone system during and after hours.
- Pleasant telephone manner always
Other Tasks
- Ensure building security – have thorough knowledge of doors/windows/alarm.
Opening and Closing Practice
- Any other tasks allocated by Senior administrators/Practice Manager
