Job Purpose
To provide accurate and efficient bookkeeping services to a portfolio of clients across a range of industries, ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations and supporting the practice in delivering a high-quality client service.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of bookkeeping clients, maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records.
- Process sales invoices, purchase invoices, receipts, payments, and journals.
- Perform regular bank, credit card, and control account reconciliations.
- Prepare and submit VAT returns in accordance with HMRC requirements.
- Ensure clients comply with Making Tax Digital (MTD) regulations for VAT and income tax.
- Maintain bookkeeping records using various accounting software such as Sage, Xero and QuickBooks.
- Review client records for accuracy and identify discrepancies or missing information.
- Liaise with clients to obtain accounting records and resolve bookkeeping queries.
- Assist with the preparation of management accounts and year-end accounts by providing accurate bookkeeping information.
- Monitor bookkeeping deadlines and ensure all client work is completed on time.
- Maintain confidential financial information in accordance with GDPR and professional standards.
Person Specification
Essential Skills and Experience
- Previous bookkeeping experience is essential.
- Strong understanding of double-entry bookkeeping principles.
- Good working knowledge of VAT legislation and VAT return preparation.
- Proficiency with accounting software, including Sage, Xero and QuickBooks.
- Excellent reconciliation skills and attention to detail.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Good communication and client relationship skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
Desirable
- Experience with Dext, AutoEntry, or similar document capture software.
- Payroll experience.
- Knowledge of CIS and other industry-specific bookkeeping requirements.
