- This role offers the opportunity to regulate radioactive substances activities under Environmental Authorisations Scotland Regulations 2018. Responsibilities include the assessment and determination of applications.
- Undertake inspections to evaluate compliance with regulatory requirements
- When necessary, progressing proportionate enforcement action in line with SEPA's enforcement policies to secure compliance and protect the environment
- The ability to communicate and engage confidently with a wide range of operators, stakeholders, experts and other regulators on matters relating to radioactive substances will be essential
- The role will work in a specialist regulatory team and be responsible for the regulation of varied range of sites located primarily in the NE of Scotland. There will be a requirement to go offshore and undertake inspections at offshore facilities in the North Sea
This is a highly important role within our Regulation, Business & Environment portfolio, which means you’ll need:
- Relevant scientific degree or relevant equivalent experience
- Good experience of working with radioactive substances or in radiation protection
- Knowledge of legislative framework covering radioactive substances both nationally and internationally
- Knowledge of the oil and gas sector and the ability to travel to offshore facilities (training can be provided)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
