Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join a specialist team in a Leeds school supporting pupils with complex needs. This is an amazing opportunity to join a team who strive to ensure every learner receives the personalised support they need to thrive.
The Role
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting pupils with a wide range of additional needs, including sensory needs, social-emotional challenges, communication difficulties and physical disabilities. Within this role you will:
- Work closely with the class teacher and other specialist staff such as on site nurses.
- Provide 1-1 personalised support to help pupils access learning in ways that support their cognitive, sensory and communication needs.
- Support pupils with personal care, mobility and therapeutic routines where required
- Use communication tools such as PECs, Makaton, and visual timetables.
- Adapt classroom activities, resources and environments to ensure pupils can participate meaningfully and safely.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidates would be those who possess patience, calmness, and a passion for working with children and young people with complex needs.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience working in schools, health and social care settings, support workers, or have had experience working with children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
- Confident supporting pupils who may require personal care, medical support or sensory regulation.
- Training in Mackaton or PECs (Desireable)
- A graduate in psychology, education or childhood studies, and either a teaching assistant or childcare qualification would be desirable.
- A strong communicator, team player who can adapt quickly to meet the needs of the classroom and school environment.
Working Hours
Monday - Friday
8:30am - 3:30pm

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
Pay: £94.00-£115.00 per day
