Senior IT Specialist
We are seeking an experienced Senior IT Specialist to join our technology team in Glasgow. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled IT professional who is passionate about delivering reliable technology solutions, supporting business critical systems, and driving continuous improvement across IT operations.
As a Senior IT Specialist, you will play a key role in maintaining and enhancing the organisation's IT infrastructure, providing advanced technical support, and contributing to strategic technology initiatives. You will work closely with internal stakeholders, infrastructure teams, and external vendors to ensure secure, efficient, and high performing IT services.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide advanced technical support for hardware, software, networking, and enterprise systems.
- Manage and maintain Windows Server, Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, and enterprise infrastructure.
- Support cloud platforms including Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services.
- Monitor system performance and ensure high availability of business critical services.
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues and implement effective long term solutions.
- Configure, maintain, and support networking equipment, VPNs, firewalls, and wireless infrastructure.
- Implement security best practices, system updates, patch management, and endpoint protection.
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and identity access management.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, system procedures, and operational guides.
- Support IT projects including infrastructure upgrades, cloud migrations, and technology deployments.
- Work closely with third party vendors to resolve technical issues and improve service delivery.
- Mentor junior IT team members and provide technical guidance where required.
- Ensure compliance with organisational policies, security standards, and data protection requirements.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Senior IT Specialist, IT Support Engineer, Systems Administrator, Infrastructure Engineer, or similar senior level IT role.
- Strong knowledge of Windows Server, Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, and enterprise infrastructure.
- Experience supporting Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services environments.
- Good understanding of networking technologies including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, firewalls, and switching.
- Experience with virtualisation platforms such as VMware or Hyper V.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity principles, endpoint security, backup solutions, and disaster recovery.
- Experience using PowerShell or other scripting tools for automation is desirable.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and customer service skills.
- Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified, Azure Administrator Associate, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, ITIL Foundation, or equivalent are desirable.
