Overview
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Weekend Hygiene Controller to join our Technical team. Reporting to the Factory Technical Manager, this role is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all weekend hygiene deep-clean activities across the site, ensuring the highest standards of food safety, hygiene, and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) are consistently achieved.
The successful candidate will lead hygiene operations during weekend shifts, support continuous improvement initiatives, and play a key role in maintaining audit readiness and compliance with customer and regulatory standards including BRC, Tesco, and M&S requirements. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced hygiene professional looking to make a significant contribution to food safety and operational excellence.
Responsibilities
Hygiene Management
- Coordinate and control all weekend deep clean programmes and schedules.
- Ensure all food manufacturing and ancillary areas are cleaned and sanitised to the highest standards.
- Act as a site expert in cleaning processes, procedures, GMP standards, and hygiene best practices.
- Suppport the review of out-of-specification microbiological or hygiene testing results, conduct investigations, and implement corrective actions.
- Support customer complaint investigations relating to hygiene, cleaning, and GMP compliance.
- Carry out hygiene audits, inspections, and cleaning validation exercises.
- Maintain and improve hygiene procedures, cleaning instructions (CICs), and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Work closely with the site chemical supplier to ensure effective stock management, availability, and best value.
- Manage product pipe seal stock rotation and site locker controls.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement across all hygiene-related activities.
- Represent the business during customer and third-party audits relating to hygiene and food safety.
- Compliance & Continuous Improvement
- Support the site's audit readiness and compliance programmes.
- Assist in developing a proactive hygiene culture that reduces food safety risks and improves operational efficiency.
- Drive improvements in cleaning effectiveness, allergen control, and hygiene standards across the site.
- Monitor hygiene-related budgets, expenditure, and cost trackers where applicable.
- Support operator training and awareness of clean-as-you-go standards and hygiene expectations.
Compliance & Continuous Improvement
- Support the site's audit readiness and compliance programmes.
- Assist in developing a proactive hygiene culture that reduces food safety risks and improves operational efficiency.

Qualifications
Essential
- Previous experience working within a food manufacturing, food production, or hygiene environment.
- Good understanding of food safety, hygiene practices, and GMP standards.
- Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to lead and motivate a team while maintaining high standards.
- Effective communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and make informed decisions during weekend operations.
- Basic understand of Food microbiology
Desirable
- Experience supervising or coordinating hygiene teams.
- Knowledge of BRCGS, retailer standards (e.g., Tesco, M&S), and customer audit requirements.
- Experience investigating hygiene-related non-conformances and implementing corrective actions.
- Knowledge of cleaning validation techniques and microbiological monitoring.
- Food Safety, HACCP, or Health & Safety qualifications

Hours of work - Saturday and Sunday 6am to 6pm
Pay: £28,000.00-£32,000.00 per year
