Job Overview
We are looking for a professional and patient focused Pharmacist to join our busy community pharmacy team. The pharmacy dispenses approximately 11,000–12,000 items per month and provides a range of NHS and clinical services, including New Medicine Service, Discharge Medicines Service, COVID and flu vaccinations, and Pharmacy First. We are also looking to develop and introduce additional services in the future.
The successful Pharmacist will work in accordance with GPhC standards, professional requirements and relevant national pharmacy guidance, maintaining high standards of patient care, clinical governance, professionalism and safe practice.
You will work closely with and support the Superintendent Pharmacist, with the support of an experienced ACT (Accredited Checking Technician) as part of the pharmacy team. The role would suit a Pharmacist who is confident working in a busy environment, enjoys patient-facing clinical work and is keen to contribute to the continued development of pharmacy services.
Duties
- Dispense prescriptions accurately and safely, checking prescriptions for clinical appropriateness, correct dosage, interactions, allergies and other potential issues before medicines are supplied to patients.
- ensuring all dispensing activities comply with relevant legislation, professional standards, local procedures and the pharmacy's standard operating procedures.
- Provide professional and clinical advice to patients, including guidance on how to take medicines, possible side effects, interactions, adherence and any precautions or monitoring requirements.
- Provide patient centred consultations, taking appropriate clinical information, identifying patients who may require further advice or referral, and maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
- Deliver and support NHS and locally commissioned pharmacy services, including the New Medicine Service, Discharge Medicines Service, Pharmacy First, COVID and flu vaccinations, and other services introduced by the pharmacy.
- Identify and manage clinical queries and medication-related problems, liaising with GP practices, other healthcare professionals and patients where clarification or further clinical information is required.
- Recognise and respond appropriately to adverse drug reactions, safeguarding concerns, medication errors and other clinical risks, taking appropriate action and escalating concerns where necessary.
- Support the safe and effective operation of the pharmacy, including appropriate management of controlled drugs, fridge items, stock, expired medicines and other medicines in accordance with legal and professional requirements.
- Maintain accurate and appropriate records, including prescription interventions, clinical consultations, service activity, incidents and other documentation required for regulatory, professional and operational purposes.
- Work collaboratively with the pharmacy team, including the Superintendent Pharmacist and Accredited Checking Technician (ACT), to ensure prescriptions are processed efficiently and patients receive a safe, effective and professional service.
- Provide appropriate supervision and support to the wider pharmacy team, promoting good dispensing practice, patient safety and compliance with the pharmacy's procedures.
- Contribute to clinical governance and continuous improvement, reporting incidents and near misses, learning from errors, reviewing procedures and supporting improvements in the quality and safety of services.
- Maintain professional competence and development, keeping up to date with medicines, clinical guidance, relevant legislation, GPhC standards and developments within community pharmacy.
- Contribute to the development of the pharmacy's clinical services, help support the Pharmacy supporting the introduction and delivery of new services as the pharmacy continues to expand its offering to patients.
- Maintain a high standard of professional conduct, putting patients' health, safety and wellbeing at the centre of all aspects of the role and working within the pharmacist's professional scope of practice.
QualificationsEssential:
- Qualified Pharmacist with a Master of Pharmacy (MPharm) degree or equivalent recognised UK pharmacy qualification.
- Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and maintaining active registration.
- Meets all relevant GPhC professional standards and requirements for practising as a Pharmacist.
- Holds appropriate professional indemnity insurance in accordance with GPhC requirements.
- Evidence of ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and commitment to maintaining professional competence.
- Appropriate knowledge and understanding of UK pharmacy legislation, professional standards and safe dispensing practices.
- Experience of, or willingness to undertake, relevant community pharmacy services such as Pharmacy First, New Medicine Service, Discharge Medicines Service and vaccination services.
Desirable
- Previous experience working as a Community Pharmacist, particularly within a busy dispensing environment.
- Independent Prescriber (IP) qualification or willingness to undertake further clinical development.
- Experience delivering NHS pharmacy services and vaccinations.
- Experience working alongside an ACT and wider pharmacy team.
- Evidence of involvement in clinical governance, incident reporting, service development or quality improvement.
- A commitment to developing new clinical services and supporting the continued development of the pharmacy.
Pay: £28.00-£30.00 per hour
