Experienced Kitchen Team Member
FEDS Fried Chicken – Grey Street, Newcastle upon Tyne£13.00 per hour + bonusAround 35 hours per week | Full-time | Permanent
We’re looking for experienced kitchen people.
FEDS is an independent fried chicken restaurant in the heart of Newcastle, built around great food, good people and doing things properly.
We’re looking to add experienced kitchen team members who are confident working in a busy, fast-paced kitchen and can bring a strong level of organisation, consistency and kitchen knowledge to the team.
This isn’t a role where you need years of fine-dining experience. But we are looking for people who already know their way around a commercial kitchen.
You might currently be working as a line cook, chef, kitchen team member or chef de partie. What matters to us is that you’re comfortable on the line, understand the importance of prep and food safety, and can maintain standards when the kitchen gets busy.
If you’ve got solid kitchen experience and want to work for an independent business where there are genuine opportunities to progress, we’d like to hear from you.
About FEDS
FEDS started life as a small fried chicken concept in Newcastle’s Grainger Market and has grown into our restaurant and bar on Grey Street.
We specialise in fried chicken, tenders, sandwiches, sauces and big flavours. Our menu is deliberately focused, which means we can put our energy into making a smaller number of things really well.
We’re an independent business and we’re ambitious about where FEDS can go. As we grow, we want to develop people from within the business and create opportunities for strong kitchen team members to progress into supervisory and management positions.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll work as part of our kitchen team across service, preparation and close-down, including:
- Cooking and preparing food consistently to FEDS specifications
- Working confidently across different kitchen stations
- Managing fryers and cooking equipment safely and effectively
- Preparing chicken, sauces, sides and other menu items
- Keeping your section organised and ready for service
- Maintaining speed and accuracy during busy services
- Following food safety, allergen and health & safety procedures
- Completing temperature checks, cleaning records and other kitchen documentation
- Maintaining excellent standards of cleanliness throughout the kitchen
- Managing prep levels and helping minimise waste
- Receiving and correctly storing deliveries
- Supporting other members of the kitchen team during service
- Helping us maintain the standards expected of a 5-star food hygiene operation
Who we’re looking for
We’re particularly interested in applicants with at least 1–2 years’ experience working in a professional kitchen.
You’ll ideally be someone who:
- Has experience working in a busy restaurant, QSR, street-food or high-volume kitchen
- Is comfortable working under pressure
- Understands kitchen organisation, prep and service
- Takes food safety and cleanliness seriously
- Can work quickly without sacrificing quality
- Is reliable and takes responsibility for their section
- Communicates well with the rest of the kitchen and FOH team
- Takes pride in the food they send out
- Wants to learn and develop
- Can work evenings and weekends
Experience with fryers, fried chicken or high-volume service would be useful, but isn’t essential.
Food Hygiene certification is desirable, although training can be provided.
What we offer
£13.00 per hour + bonus
Around 35 hours per week, with additional hours available depending on the needs of the business.
You’ll also receive:
- Staff food and discounts
- Company bonus scheme
- Training and development
- Opportunities to progress as FEDS grows
- The opportunity to work within an independent Newcastle food business rather than a large chain
- A team where ideas and input are genuinely encouraged
Progression
We’re particularly interested in finding people who want more than simply another kitchen job.
FEDS is growing, and we want the strongest people in our kitchens to grow with us.
For the right person, there will be opportunities to take on additional responsibility and progress towards Kitchen Supervisor, Kitchen Manager and other management roles as the business develops.

This is a full-time position of approximately 35 hours per week.
Our busiest periods include evenings and weekends, so applicants must be available to work a mixture of shifts across the week.
