Consultant in General Surgery (Colorectal Surgery Interest)
NHS Ayrshire & Arran An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint a substantive Consultant in General Surgery with a special interest in Colorectal Surgery. We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated surgeon with broad experience in General and Emergency Surgery to join our integrated surgical service across NHS Ayrshire & Arran.
The successful applicant will complement a well-established team of Consultant General Surgeons with subspecialty interests and will participate in the General Surgery emergency on-call rota at University Hospital Crosshouse (UHC), currently operating at 1:12.
The post-holder will join a colorectal team comprising five Consultant Colorectal Surgeons at UHC and three at University Hospital Ayr (UHA). The role will require delivery of clinical services across both hospital sites as part of a modern, integrated surgical model.

Surgical Services Both UHC and UHA provide acute general surgical and emergency surgical services. Following recent changes in Critical Care provision, all Level 3 critical care is now centralised at UHC, with Level 2 care provided across both sites. This has supported ongoing development and redesign of emergency and elective surgical pathways.
Further service development is planned, including the continued optimisation of University Hospital Ayr as a centre for high-volume elective surgery.
