Job Summary
- We are seeking an experienced Childcare Lawyer Solicitor to join the Legal Services team on an interim basis to provide cover during an ongoing recruitment process.
- This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified solicitor with extensive experience in children's law and care proceedings to work within a supportive local authority legal team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert legal advice and representation in care proceedings and other family law matters.
- Manage legal queries from the Children and Young People Services Directorate.
- Conduct legal research and provide advice on complex legal issues affecting operational services.
- Prepare legal documentation and represent the Council where required.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure compliance with Law Society Professional Standards and Lexcel accreditation requirements.
- Deliver practical, timely, and high-quality legal advice to internal stakeholders.
Essential Requirements:
- Qualified Solicitor holding a current practising certificate (essential).
- Significant experience in children's law, including:
- Care proceedings
- Family law
- Strong legal research and analytical skills.
- Ability to provide clear, practical legal advice on complex matters.
- Experience working within a local authority or public sector legal environment is desirable.
Working Arrangements:
- 37 hours per week
- Hybrid working
- Mondays: Office-based at County Hall, Northallerton
- Tuesday–Friday: Remote working
- Candidates based in North Yorkshire or neighbouring counties are preferred due to the nature of the assignment.
