Job Overview
We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Cook to join our team at a nursery school. This role involves preparing nutritious meals and snacks for young children in a safe and hygienic environment. The ideal candidate will have a passion for food preparation, food safety, and creating a positive dining experience for children. This position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to the wellbeing and development of young learners while working in a friendly, supportive setting. The job is Monday to Friday and hours of work are 9 am to 5 pm, with a one hour unpaid lunch break.
Duties
- Prepare and cook meals and snacks suitable for nursery-aged children, adhering to dietary guidelines and nutritional standards
- Food safety practices, including proper storage, handling, and cleanliness of kitchen equipment and utensils
- Meal planning and ingredient sourcing in collaboration with the nursery management
- Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen area, including washing dishes, cleaning surfaces, and disposing of waste appropriately
- Follow all health and safety regulations related to food preparation and hygiene standards
- Support the organisation of kitchen supplies and stock levels to ensure smooth daily operations
Experience
- Previous catering or kitchen experience is desirable, particularly within childcare, education, or similar settings
- Experience in cooking or meal preparation for groups of children is advantageous
- Knowledge of food safety standards and best practices in food handling is essential
- Familiarity with restaurant or catering environments will be considered a plus
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining high standards of hygiene and safety
- A genuine interest in supporting children's health and wellbeing through nutritious food preparation
