Make a Real Difference – Become a Foster Carer with Calderdale Council
Do you have a big heart, a listening ear, and the kind of patience that helps others grow? Then fostering could be your calling.
At Calderdale Council, we believe that every child deserves safety, stability, and someone who believes in them. That’s why we’re inviting people just like you; those with warmth, empathy, and a natural instinct to care to join our fostering community and help shape brighter futures for children and young people in our area.
Fostering isn’t just a role, it’s a vocation. It’s about using the qualities you already have to make a lasting impact. Whether you're a great communicator, a calm presence in a storm, or someone who simply wants to give back, you already have the foundations to be a fantastic foster carer. We’ll support you with the rest.
What You’ll Receive:
- Full Council Tax exemption (terms and conditions apply)
- Extensive training - online and in-person, tailored to your journey
- Your own dedicated fostering social worker
- Peer mentoring from experienced foster carers
- Access to:
- Informal support groups to connect and share
- Support groups for your own children
- Therapeutic advice and emotional support
- Financial support with opportunities to progress as you gain experience
Who Can Foster?
We welcome people from all walks of life, regardless of background, religion, race, gender, or sexuality. If you:
- Are aged 21 or over
- Have a spare bedroom
- Are ready to support and nurture a young person
…then fostering could be for you.
Every application is assessed individually, and we value life experience just as much as formal qualifications. All foster carers undergo a full assessment, including DBS and medical checks.
