Kingfisher Midlands is the local face of Direct Seafoods across the Midlands, supplying chefs and caterers with quality fresh and frozen fish and seafood, backed by the support and buying power of the wider Bidfresh network. We are a growing, friendly team with big plans, and we are looking for a Technical Manager to help protect our standards, support our people and keep food safety and quality at the heart of everything we do.
Job Role:
· Ensure the site remains compliant with food safety legislation, customer requirements and third-party standards.
· Promote a positive quality culture across the business, making standards clear, practical and easy for teams to follow.
This is a key role at the centre of our site, working closely with operations, sales, buying, depot teams and the wider Bidfresh group. You will lead the technical agenda day to day, maintain robust systems and help colleagues understand what good looks like when it comes to food safety, quality, compliance and continuous improvement.
We are looking for someone organised, steady under pressure and confident working with people at all levels. You will need strong technical knowledge, but just as importantly, you will bring a practical, supportive approach that helps the team do things properly and consistently.
· Promoting quality achievement, good practice and performance improvement across the site.
· Assessing product specifications, customer requirements and site processes to ensure standards are clear and achievable.
· Ensuring continued compliance with legal, customer, group and industry standards.
· Maintaining third-party certification, including BRCGS and any specific customer standards.
· Agreeing, implementing and maintaining in-house and group standards.
· Defining processes, implementing group procedures and ensuring they are understood by the relevant teams.
· Working methodically to maintain a clearly defined management system that all staff can apply.
· Setting up, maintaining and reviewing controls, records and technical documentation.
· Supervising and supporting staff carrying out checks, tests and routine controls.
· Ensuring tests, procedures and corrective actions are properly understood, completed and followed through.
· Managing complaint handling, investigations, root cause analysis and follow-up actions.
· Managing supplier approval and supporting supplier performance reviews where required.
· Collating and analysing performance data against agreed standards and defined parameters.
· Preparing clear reports and updates for the site, group and customers as required.
· Identifying relevant training needs and helping teams build confidence around food safety, quality and compliance.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience Required:
· Food-related qualification or strong experience within a food business.
· Experience of BRCGS and third-party audits.
· HACCP qualification.
· Health and safety experience. IOSH qualification is desirable, but training can be provided.
· Confident computer skills, especially Microsoft Word and Excel.
· Exceptional organisational skills and strong attention to detail.
· Calm, practical and able to work efficiently under strict time constraints.
· A positive, can-do attitude and the confidence to work with colleagues across the site in a supportive and professional way.
· Clear communication skills, with the ability to explain standards, actions and expectations in a way people can understand and follow.
· Could also suit a graduate, as there will be support from the central team
Why join us? We are a super friendly team with plenty going on and lots to learn. You will have the chance to make a real difference to the way our site works, support a growing foodservice business and be part of a team that values quality, teamwork, practicality and getting things done properly. If you are technically strong, organised, positive and ready to help shape standards at Kingfisher Midlands, we would love to hear from you.
