Job Description Overview
We are seeking an Operations / Production Coordinator to support the efficient delivery of steelwork projects from approved design through to manufacture and delivery. The role focuses on collating fabrication drawing packages, preparing CNC machine files and nest, coordinating material procurement, planning production activities and liaising with clients on delivery schedules. Mechanical Solutions supply, manufacture and install mild steel components for the construction, material handling, aerospace & HVAC industries.
Key Responsibilities
Drawing/Job Package Coordination
- Collate and prepare steelwork drawing packages from approved designs and engineering information.
- Ensure fabrication drawings, material lists, load lists, and supporting documentation are complete and issued in line with project specifications.
- Maintain drawing revisions and document control throughout the project lifecycle.
CNC Preparation
- Create CNC machine files from approved fabrication drawings and data files.
- Prepare cutting, drilling, pressing, and machining data for workshop equipment.
- Verify CNC outputs prior to release to production.
- Assist in maintaining efficient and accurate manufacturing processes.
Purchasing & Procurement
- Source and purchase structural steel, fixings, and other project-related components.
- Obtain supplier quotations and place purchase orders.
- Monitor supplier lead times and coordinate deliveries to support production schedules.
- Maintain purchasing records and supplier communications.
Production Planning
- Schedule fabrication work to meet project and customer deadlines.
- Coordinate material availability, machine capacity, and labour resources accordingly.
- Monitor project progress and adjust production schedules as required.
- Work closely with workshop personnel to ensure efficient workflow and delivery performance.
Client Coordination
- Liaise with clients regarding project progress and delivery requirements.
- Agree and communicate production and delivery schedules.
- Provide updates on manufacturing status and address any scheduling concerns.
- Support the achievement of agreed project milestones and delivery targets.
Skills
- Strong organisational and planning skills.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to in-house systems.
- Excellent communication and customer-facing skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
Experience
- Relevant experience in steelwork fabrication, production planning, manufacturing coordination, or a related field.
- Technical or engineering qualifications are preferred but not necessary.
Pay: £30,000.00-£35,000.00 per year
