HGV Technician – Days
Location: Leeds
Shift Pattern: Monday to Friday (7:00am – 5:00pm) + 1 in 2 Saturdays (7:00am – 12:00pm)
Salary: £51,780 per annum
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced HGV Technician to join a well-established and highly respected fleet maintenance operation in Leeds. With nearly 70 years of industry experience and a modern, fully equipped workshop, this role offers long-term stability, strong earning potential, and the chance to work on a large, diverse fleet of over 2,000 vehicles.
This is a key position within the workshop, where you will play a vital role in maintaining fleet reliability, minimising downtime, and ensuring all vehicles meet the highest safety and compliance standards.
The Role
Reporting to the Workshop Manager, you will be responsible for carrying out inspections, servicing, diagnostics, and repairs in line with manufacturer standards and DVSA guidelines. You will be expected to work efficiently, accurately, and safely while contributing to overall workshop performance.
Key Responsibilities
Inspect, diagnose, and repair vehicle faults to a high standard in line with DVSA guidelines
Carry out routine servicing, maintenance, and inspections on a large commercial fleet
Accurately record all work completed using the workshop’s maintenance systems
Ensure vehicles are maintained and returned to service with minimal downtime
Support the achievement of high MOT pass rates, aiming for first-time pass success
Attend roadside breakdowns and carry out repairs or arrange recovery where necessary
Work collaboratively with colleagues to maintain efficient workshop operations
Ensure all parts are requested accurately and authorised to avoid delays
Adhere strictly to health & safety requirements, including correct PPE usage
Assist with scheduled equipment checks and general workshop upkeep
Maintain high standards of cleanliness and organisation within the workshop
Report any issues promptly to the Workshop Supervisor or Transport Manager
Essential:
Proven experience within an HGV/LGV workshop environment
NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Vehicle Maintenance
Strong understanding of Operator Licence compliance and vehicle standards
Category C driving licence
Ability to diagnose faults and carry out repairs independently
