Aspira Education are recruiting for a confident and compassionate Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a specialist education setting supporting pupils with autism, SEMH and communication needs.
This is a rewarding permanent opportunity for somebody who enjoys supporting pupils both academically and emotionally within a highly supportive SEN environment.
Hours
40 hours per week
Monday / Wednesday / Thursday: 8.15am – 4.45pm
Tuesday: 8.15am – 5.00pm
Friday: 8.15am – 4.00pm
About the Role
As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant you will:
- Support pupils both 1:1 and within small classroom groups.
- Assist teachers in delivering engaging and differentiated lessons.
- Lead small group interventions and structured learning activities.
- Support pupils with autism, SEMH and communication difficulties to engage positively in education.
- Help pupils develop confidence, independence and emotional regulation skills.
- Use calm and consistent behaviour management strategies.
- Adapt learning activities to suit individual pupil needs and abilities.
- Work closely with teachers, therapists and pastoral teams to support progress and wellbeing.
Every day is different, so flexibility, resilience and relationship-building skills are essential.
About the Setting
This role is based within a specialist education environment supporting children and young people with autism, SEMH and associated behavioural or communication needs.
The setting combines therapeutic support with tailored education pathways to help pupils develop academically, socially and emotionally.
What We’re Looking For
We welcome applicants from backgrounds such as:
- SEN Teaching Assistant or HLTA roles
- Alternative provision or SEMH settings
- Youth work or mentoring
- Residential care or support work
- Behaviour support or pastoral roles
The ideal candidate will:
✔ Have experience supporting children or young people with SEN
✔ Be calm, patient and emotionally resilient
✔ Build positive relationships with pupils quickly
✔ Have strong communication and teamwork skills
✔ Be confident supporting behaviour management within the classroom
✔ Be proactive, adaptable and supportive
HLTA qualification is desirable but not essential for candidates with strong SEN experience.

- A fully enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
- Two recent references
- A willingness to complete safeguarding training with Aspira
