Role: Mechanical Design Engineer

We are currently recruiting for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join an established, award-winning engineering and manufacturing company based in the Bradford area of West Yorkshire.
The successful Mechanical Design Engineer will join an existing team of highly skilled engineers and will be responsible for designing heavy metal fabrications and assemblies for large metal structures and enclosures.
You will take designs from initial concept through to manufacture, ensuring all design stages are achieved within time, quality and cost requirements. Working closely with the project and engineering team to deliver products which meet specification and customer expectations.
Mechanical Design Engineer – Responsibilities:
- Conduct design reviews, feasibility studies and technical discussions during the early stages of projects.
- Contribute to concept generation, product development and detailed mechanical designs.
- Assess design concepts for manufacturability, cost, usability, serviceability and technical risk.
- Produce and develop 3D models, assemblies and engineering drawings using Autodesk Inventor
- Generate General Arrangement drawings, fabrication drawings, Bills of Materials and supporting technical documentation.
- Support technical and commercial teams during project development by providing engineering input and design solutions.
- Work with Manufacturing, Operations and Procurement teams to ensure designs are practical and aligned with production capabilities.
- Act as a technical authority for mechanical design decisions within assigned projects, Identify and resolve design issues.
- Provide support and mentoring to Design Engineers, CAD Engineers and other team members.
- Contribute to research and development activities, continuous improvement initiatives and standardisation projects.
- Ensure all work is undertaken in compliance with company design, safety, quality and environmental procedures.
- Attend customer meetings, supplier visits and site visits as required
Mechanical Design Engineer - Skills & Experience Required:
- Relevant qualifications in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- Proven experience in mechanical design engineering within a metal fabrication or heavy assembly manufacturing environment.
- CAD: Experienced in using Autodesk Inventor and Vault software. (or similar)
- Experience of designing fabricated structures, enclosures or engineered systems.
- Strong understanding of fabrication, welding, sheet metal and assembly techniques.
- Experience producing detailed engineering drawings, Bills of Materials and manufacturing documentation.
- Interpret customer requirements and translate them into practical engineering solutions.
