Starter Section Chef is responsible for preparing and presenting appetisers, soups, salads, and all other starters in a timely and consistent manner. They must ensure high-quality food production while maintaining hygiene and safety standards in the kitchen.
Key Responsibilities:
- Food Preparation & Cooking:
- Prepare, cook, and plate all starter dishes according to the restaurant’s recipes and presentation standards.
- Ensure consistency in portion sizes, seasoning, and plating.
- Work efficiently to serve customers promptly, especially during peak hours.
- Quality & Hygiene Standards:
- Follow food safety regulations and maintain cleanliness in the starter section.
- Ensure ingredients are fresh, properly stored, and used before expiration.
- Follow HACCP and other health and safety guidelines.
- Stock & Inventory Management:
- Monitor stock levels for ingredients in the starter section.
- Assist in ordering and receiving supplies, ensuring minimal wastage.
- Teamwork & Communication:
- Coordinate with other sections to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
- Communicate effectively with the Head Chef and Sous Chef regarding any issues or improvements needed.
- Train and guide junior kitchen staff when required.
- Problem Solving & Adaptability:
- Adjust to menu changes or special dietary requests.
- Troubleshoot issues such as delayed service or ingredient shortages.
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Chef de Partie or similar role in a busy restaurant. Minimum of 5 years experience is required.
- Strong knowledge of starter and appetiser preparation, cooking techniques, and presentation.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Attention to detail and a passion for high-quality food.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Food safety and hygiene certification preferred.
Working Conditions:
- Shifts may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
