Café Supervisor – Specialty Coffee & Brunch

Role Overview
The Café Supervisor is responsible for leading day-to-day shifts, ensuring exceptional customer service, consistent coffee quality, and efficient café operations.
This is a hands-on leadership role where you are expected to lead from the front—actively preparing coffee, serving customers, and supporting the team throughout every shift. You will act as the shift leader, ensuring service runs smoothly while maintaining the highest operational and brand standards.
Working closely with the Assistant Manager, you will help develop the team, uphold company procedures, and contribute to the continued growth of Moi Bakeshop.
This role offers a clear progression pathway into an Assistant Manager position as the business expands.
Key Responsibilities
1. Shift Leadership
- Lead daily café operations during assigned shifts.
- Support the Assistant Manager in delivering smooth and efficient service.
- Ensure opening, mid-shift and closing procedures are completed correctly.
- Monitor service flow and respond quickly to operational challenges.
- Organise the team effectively during busy trading periods.
- Maintain a clean, organised and welcoming café environment.
2. Service & Coffee Execution (Hands-On Leadership)
Lead by example throughout every shift.
- Prepare specialty coffee to a consistently high standard.
- Work confidently across all front-of-house positions, including espresso bar, till and floor service.
- Maintain espresso calibration and coffee quality throughout the day.
- Deliver excellent milk texturing and drink presentation.
- Monitor queue times and customer flow.
- Step into any role required to maintain excellent service.
- Support and coach team members during service.
3. Coffee Equipment & Maintenance
- Carry out daily cleaning, backflushing and maintenance of espresso machines and grinders.
- Monitor equipment performance and report maintenance issues promptly.
- Help minimise equipment downtime through preventative maintenance.
- Maintain consistent coffee quality throughout every shift.
4. Team Support & Development
- Motivate and support team members during service.
- Assist with onboarding and training new employees.
- Encourage teamwork and maintain a positive working environment.
- Provide coaching and immediate feedback during shifts.
- Communicate operational updates from management to the team.
- Escalate performance concerns to the Assistant Manager when appropriate.
5. Customer Experience & Brand Standards
- Deliver an exceptional customer experience aligned with company values.
- Handle customer enquiries and resolve minor complaints professionally.
- Build relationships with regular customers.
- Ensure café presentation, cleanliness and product displays remain at the highest standard.
6. Stock, Systems & Daily Operations
- Assist with stock replenishment and inventory control.
- Receive and organise deliveries.
- Help minimise waste through good stock rotation and portion control.
- Operate Square POS accurately and follow cash handling procedures.
- Complete daily operational checklists and records.
7. Compliance, Hygiene & Safety
- Follow all Food Safety and Health & Safety procedures.
- Complete daily cleaning and hygiene schedules.
- Ensure equipment is used safely and correctly.
- Promote a safe and compliant working environment.
Key Skills & ExperienceEssential
- Minimum 2 year's experience in a café, coffee shop or hospitality environment.
- Strong barista skills and understanding of specialty coffee standards.
- Previous experience leading shifts or supervising a small team.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to remain calm and efficient in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred
- Experience in a high-volume café.
- Familiarity with Square POS or similar systems.
- Passion for specialty coffee and hospitality.
- Ambition to progress into a management role.
