Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning Technician - Experienced (Self-Employed)
Fine Carpet Cleaning Ltd · London, within the M25 · £34,000 – £48,000 a year · Diary booked a week in advance · Self-employed
Fine Carpet Cleaning Ltd is an established London carpet, rug and upholstery cleaning company, working in homes across the capital since 2012. Due to continued growth, we have an immediate requirement for an experienced carpet and upholstery cleaning technician to join our residential cleaning team.
We have built our name on three things: integrity, honesty and reliability. We hold to fair treatment, stability and professionalism, and we work with modern equipment and high-quality products to deliver excellent results and satisfied customers. We expect every technician who represents us to meet that standard — and we apply the same values to the people in our team, not only to our clients.
All technicians must have an excellent understanding of carpet, upholstery and rug cleaning, and be confident working in high-end homes with demanding customers.
Read this part first - this is a self-employed position
You invoice us for the work you do, either as a sole trader or through your own limited company. You are responsible for your own tax and National Insurance, and you need to be registered with HMRC, with a UTR number or your company.
We put that at the top rather than buried at the bottom, because we would rather you knew now than found out at the interview.
How we choose
Your experience gets you the interview. We need someone who can walk into a customer’s home and work to standard, unsupervised, from the first week.
But the person we take on will be the one we would trust with our own name on the van. Technique can be improved. Character cannot.
What we give you
- A full diary, booked a week in advance. You never spend your evenings looking for the next job.
- A company van for the work, at no cost to you.
- All machinery and chemicals provided. You don’t spend a penny on kit.
- Jobs typically run from around 8:00 to 17:00, so you know what your day looks like.
- Extra work whenever you want it, evenings, weekends and nights are there for anyone who wants to earn more.
- Room to take on senior work and lead jobs.
- Direct access to the owner. When something needs sorting you speak to the person who can sort it, not a call centre.
- We pay on time. You invoice, you get paid, no chasing, no excuses.
What you’ll be doing
- Professional cleaning of carpets, rugs and upholstery in customers’ homes across all areas of London.
- Assessing each job on arrival and choosing the right method and product for the fabric in front of you.
- Delivering a finish you would be happy with in your own home.
- Looking after the van, the machines and the stock, so the next job starts on time.
- Representing Fine Carpet Cleaning in people’s homes.
What we need from you (essential)
- Proven, hands-on experience in professional carpet and upholstery cleaning. We are not able to train from scratch for this position.
- An excellent understanding of carpet, upholstery and rug cleaning, and the confidence to serve high-end customers.
- You must live within the M25. We work throughout London and need our technicians close to the work.
- Registered as self-employed with HMRC with a UTR number, or working through your own limited company.
- A full, valid UK driving licence.
- The right to work in the UK.
- Good spoken English, enough to talk a customer through the work with confidence.
- Physical fitness. This is real work.
And the part that actually decides it
- Honest. If something goes wrong, we want to hear it from you first, not from the customer.
- Reliable. You turn up, on time, every day, and nobody has to check.
- Proud of your work. You notice the bit that isn’t quite right, and you do it again.
- Respectful. Someone has let you into their home. You leave it better than you found it, in every sense.
- Still learning. Ten years of experience is not the same as ten years of getting better.
