Survival Skills Instructor – After-School Club
Love the outdoors? Know your way around a campfire? Want to teach children some seriously cool skills? We want to hear from you!
We’re looking for an enthusiastic Survival Skills Instructor to join our team and run a fun, hands-on after-school survival skills club at one of our local primary schools.
This is a great opportunity for someone with real experience in survival skills, bushcraft or outdoor education who enjoys sharing their knowledge and getting children excited about the outdoors.
What will you be doing?
You’ll be leading fun, practical sessions where children can learn real outdoor and survival skills in a safe and supportive environment.
Depending on the session, activities could include:
- Fire lighting and fire safety
- Shelter building
- Knots and rope skills
- Navigation and basic map & compass skills
- Identifying plants and learning about the natural environment
- Bushcraft and woodland skills
- Outdoor survival techniques
- Team challenges and problem-solving activities
- Plenty of games, challenges and hands-on activities!
You’ll make sure activities are age-appropriate, well managed and safe, while creating an environment where children can get stuck in, try new things and build confidence.
What we're looking for
Relevant survival skills, bushcraft or outdoor experience is essential.
Ideally, you’ll also have:
- A relevant outdoor, bushcraft, survival or coaching qualification (desirable)
- Experience working with children (desirable)
- A good understanding of outdoor safety and risk management
- A genuine passion for the outdoors and practical skills
- A fun, enthusiastic and encouraging personality
- The confidence to lead a group of primary-aged children
- Reliability and a responsible approach to safeguarding
You don't need to be a teacher – we're looking for someone who knows their stuff, loves the outdoors and can make learning practical skills exciting for children.
