Job Description
We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Furnace Operative to join our production team at our Sandycroft site. This is a hands-on, physically demanding role working at the heart of our aluminium melting operations.
You will be responsible for operating and maintaining furnace systems, ensuring production targets are met safely, efficiently, and in line with environmental standards. Working closely with colleagues across the site, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality output to our global customer base.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare, operate, and monitor furnace systems to complete daily aluminium melts in line with production targets and quality standards
- Furnace Preparation & Maintenance
Carry out daily furnace preparation, cleaning, and maintenance activities, including replacing furnace pots when required
- Health & Safety Compliance
Adhere strictly to all company health and safety procedures, including correct use of PPE, and contribute to a safe working environment
- Environmental Responsibility
Follow correct operational procedures to minimise environmental impact and ensure compliance with environmental standards
Maintain a clean, safe, and organised furnace area and surrounding workspace
Work closely with other operatives and departments to ensure smooth, efficient production and achievement of daily targets
About You
You will be a dependable and motivated individual with a strong work ethic and a commitment to safety and quality in a manufacturing environment.
Essential / Desirable Experience & Skills:
- Previous experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment (furnace or metals experience desirable but not essential)
- Strong awareness of health, safety, and environmental practices
- Good attention to detail and a methodical approach to work
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Physically fit and comfortable working in a hot, demanding environment
- Positive attitude with a willingness to learn and develop new skills
Qualifications:
- Valid FLT (Forklift Truck) licence or experience operating an FLT.
- No formal qualifications required, though relevant technical or operational training is advantageous
Working Hours
- Monday to Thursday: 05:00 start, finish when daily production and tasks are complete
- Friday: 05:00 start (reduced production)
- Overtime and occasional Saturday working may be required

Additional Information
Due to the nature of our operations, flexibility is essential. Although the furnace operative position would be your main role, you may, on occasions be required to provide support on the yard or driving. A class 2 license is also highly desirable.
