We are looking for a motivated Junior CAD/CAM operator to join our growing manufacturing team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with CAD/CAM experience or a recent engineering qualification who is looking to develop their skills in sheet metal manufacturing.
You will receive training and support while learning to produce manufacturing drawings, create efficient nesting layouts, and program Amada CNC turret punch and laser cutting machines.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce and amend 2D CAD drawings from customer specifications.
- Assist in creating efficient nesting layouts for sheet metal components.
- Learn to generate CNC programs for Amada turret punch and laser cutting machines.
- Help optimise material utilisation and reduce waste.
- Ensure drawings and CNC programs meet quality and manufacturing standards.
- Work closely with production and senior engineers to resolve technical queries.
- Maintain accurate drawing revisions and engineering documentation.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering department.
- Develop flat blank layouts from folded components, applying the correct bend allowances and bend deductions for various thicknesses of aluminium, mild steel, stainless steel, and other sheet materials.
- Understand feasibility of producing sheet metal parts and material limitations such as minimum fold distances and grade restrictions.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Engineering qualification (HNC/HND, apprenticeship, or equivalent) or relevant CAD/CAM experience.
- Basic knowledge of CAD software.
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to learn and develop new skills.
Desirable
- Experience using Amada CAD/CAM software (AP100, VPSS 3i, or similar)
- Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication.
- Experience with AutoCAD, 3D, SolidWorks.
- Previous experience in a manufacturing environment
