About Future Academy
Future Academy is an innovative educational start-up in Edinburgh dedicated to unlocking the potential of children aged 6–16 through immersive, hands-on learning. We bridge the gap between traditional schooling and real-world success by introducing young minds to professional fields in a fun and practical environment.
We are currently looking for passionate and energetic Medical Students to lead our highly popular "Little Doctor" after-school programme.
The Role
As a "Little Doctor" Instructor, you will step into the classroom to inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals. You do not need formal teaching qualifications—we are looking for your medical knowledge, enthusiasm, and ability to make complex concepts fun and accessible for children.
You will lead small, manageable classes (maximum 12 children), supported by an assistant, focusing on practical, hands-on activities rather than textbook learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead engaging 2 classes for 1.5-hour weekly sessions for children.
- Teach basic concepts of human anatomy, simple first aid, and how the body works through interactive experiments and roleplay.
- Demonstrate the use of basic medical equipment (e.g., stethoscopes, bandages).
- Create a safe, inclusive, and encouraging environment where children can build confidence and ask questions.
- Work collaboratively with a class assistant who will help manage the group and ensure safety.
Working Hours & Flexibility
The role currently offers approximately 4 hours per week. This includes the 1.5-hour active teaching sessions, alongside fully paid time for classroom setup, brief preparation, and tidying up. We understand the high demands of a medical degree, so we ensure our scheduling is flexible. As we successfully grow and launch our daily classes and holiday camps, there will be plenty of opportunities to significantly increase your hours and take on more classes.
PVG & Safeguarding Commitment
Future Academy is deeply committed to the safety and well-being of our students. All instructors are required to hold a valid PVG (Protection of Vulnerable Groups) scheme membership. If you are not currently a member, do not worry—we will assist you with the entire application process and fully cover the associated costs. Additionally, you will receive comprehensive, paid safeguarding training prior to starting your role.
Who We Are Looking For
- Education: Currently studying Medicine, Nursing, Paramedic Science, or a closely related healthcare degree in Edinburgh.
- Personality: Enthusiastic, approachable, and highly communicative. You must enjoy working with children and have a knack for storytelling and simplifying information.
- Reliability: Punctual and committed to delivering high-quality sessions.
What We Offer
- Valuable Experience: Excellent opportunity to develop your public speaking, leadership, and communication skills—highly valuable for your future medical career.
- Supportive Environment: All curriculum guidelines, materials, and equipment are provided. You will also have a dedicated classroom assistant to support you.
- Fair Pay: Fully paid time for both the teaching sessions and your setup/preparation time.
