Assistant Accountant
37.5 hours per week
As our Assistant Accountant, you’ll play an important role in keeping our finance function running smoothly, providing accurate and timely financial support while building positive relationships with colleagues, Members and stakeholders.
You’ll be part of a collaborative finance team where we care about getting things right and finding better ways of working. This is a varied role with plenty of opportunity to build your financial knowledge, contribute to the wider business and make a real difference.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and distribute AF Affinity sales invoices in a timely and efficient manner, ensuring invoices are aligned to any order confirmation/prepayments and correct VAT rates and payment terms are applied.
- Issue monthly AF Affinity customer statements and proactively chase payment of overdue accounts, building positive and professional relationships.
- Act as the first point of contact for any AF Affinity customer account queries, ensuring these are responded to promptly and with a helpful, solutions-focused approach.
- Administer any AF Affinity credit/refunds due in line with customer expectations.
- Process telephone card payments from customers.
- Reconcile AF Affinity supplier statements.
- Close AF Affinity sales and purchase ledgers in line with administration timetable, ensuring all transactions are allocated in correct accounting periods.
- Prepare nominal ledger journal postings, bank postings and reconciliation, and support the submission of quarterly VAT returns.
- Prepare AF Affinity monthly management accounts.
- Assist Management Accountant and Financial Controller with preparation and updating of AF Affinity budgets/forecasts and cashflows.
- Work collaboratively with the wider team and business areas, answering calls and responding to emails or tasks during peak times as required.
About You
We’re looking for someone who is has previous experience in a similar role, with a genuine interest in finance and a desire to make a difference, alongside;
- Engaging & effective communication both verbally and in writing.
- Strong attention to detail and pride in producing accurate, high-quality work.
- Excellent organisational skills, with effective time management & prioritisation skills.
- Confident using digital platforms including Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- A collaborative approach and willingness to support colleagues and the wider business.
- A curious mindset, with an interest in understanding how things work and finding ways to improve them.
- The confidence to challenge constructively and ask questions when something could be done better.
