Overview
We are looking for an experienced Freelance Fire Alarm & AOV Engineer to work with us on a job-by-job basis. Initially, this is a subcontractor/freelance position, offering regular work as projects become available. For the right candidate, there is the opportunity for the role to develop into more consistent work and potentially a full-time position in the future.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, commissioning, servicing, maintenance, and fault finding of fire alarm and Automatic Opening Vent (AOV) systems across residential, commercial, and communal properties.
This role requires a proactive and reliable engineer with excellent technical knowledge of both addressable and conventional fire alarm systems, who can work independently while maintaining high standards of workmanship and customer service.
Duties
- Install, commission, service, maintain, and repair fire alarm systems.
- Carry out fault finding and diagnostics on addressable and conventional fire alarm systems.
- Install, commission, service, and maintain AOV (Automatic Opening Vent) systems.
- Test and inspect fire alarm systems in accordance with BS 5839.
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive call-outs.
- Identify faults, recommend remedial works, and complete repairs.
- Complete all service reports, certificates, and job documentation accurately.
- Liaise professionally with clients, site managers, and tenants.
- Ensure all work complies with current British Standards and health & safety regulations.
- Work independently or alongside other engineers when required.
Experience
- Proven experience working on fire alarm systems.
- Strong knowledge of addressable fire alarm systems is essential.
- Experience installing, servicing, commissioning, and fault finding fire alarm systems.
- Experience working with AOV systems is highly desirable.
- Good understanding of BS 5839 and current fire safety regulations.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
