A fully skilled, time‑served Vehicle Mechanic responsible for carrying out a complete range of mechanical, electrical, and diagnostic repairs across all vehicle types. This role requires deep technical expertise, strong problem‑solving ability, and the capability to work independently to a high professional standard.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnostics & Fault Finding
- Perform advanced diagnostics using specialist equipment (e.g., OBD, manufacturer‑specific tools).
- Identify complex mechanical, electrical, and electronic faults.
- Interpret diagnostic reports and develop accurate repair plans.
- General Mechanical Repairs
- Complete all aspects of mechanical repair including brakes, suspension, steering, clutches, exhausts, cooling systems, and drivetrain components.
- Carry out routine and major servicing in line with manufacturer schedules.
- Conduct pre‑MOT checks and rectify defects.
- Engine & Transmission Work
- Perform full engine rebuilds, top‑end and bottom‑end repairs, timing belt/chain replacements, and cylinder head work.
- Diagnose and repair manual and automatic transmission faults.
- Electrical & Electronic Systems
- Repair and replace wiring, sensors, control modules, alternators, starter motors, and other electrical components.
- Work confidently with CAN‑bus systems and modern vehicle electronics.
- Specialist Mechanical Skills
- Carry out advanced repairs such as turbocharger replacement, DPF/EGR system diagnostics, fuel system repairs, and hybrid/EV mechanical work (if trained).
- Use specialist tools and equipment safely and effectively.
- Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all work meets industry standards and manufacturer specifications.
- Maintain accurate job records and documentation.
- Follow all workshop health & safety procedures and contribute to a clean, organised working environment.
- Customer & Team Interaction
- Communicate technical issues clearly to colleagues or customers.
- Provide honest assessments and recommendations.
- Support apprentices or junior technicians where required.
Skills & Experience Required
- Time‑served mechanic with full apprenticeship or equivalent qualification (NVQ Level 3 or similar).
- Extensive hands‑on experience across a wide range of vehicle systems.
- Strong diagnostic capability using modern equipment.
- Ability to work independently and deliver high‑quality workmanship.
- Good understanding of modern vehicle technology, electronics, and emissions systems.
- Full UK driving licence.
