Applications are invited for the role of Senior Clinical Fellow Doctor. This is a newly created post due to service re-design. Clinical Fellow posts are graded at the equivalent level to Resident Doctors in Psychiatry. You will be placed at the appropriate level based on your experience.
The post is suitable for doctors with a couple of years’ experience in Psychiatry, seeking further experience in General Adult Psychiatry and to obtain MRCPsych qualifications, or doctors seeking to enhance their portfolio to gain entry to the training scheme.
Clinical Fellow posts are not recognised for training by the Postgraduate Dean, however, many of our Locally Employed Doctors successfully go on to join formal Training Schemes in psychiatry. You will have access to several training/educational opportunities including dedicated teaching sessions.
The post holder will not be expected to participate in an out of hours rota, however there may be opportunities to participate subject to agreement from your line manager and service manager.
Applicants will need to be GMC registered, with a right work in the UK, with at least 2 years of experience of management of mental health conditions under supervision. Section 12 approval is desirable.
The post is for an initial period of 12 months, but this could be extended with mutual agreement.
- Full participation in the multi-disciplinary team providing mental health services.
- Under direct supervision of the team consultant, or experienced Registered MH Nurses (RMN) in the team, to provide clinical assessments and medical reviews of patients in crisis, including signposting and referral to other mental health services in the community.
- Perform risk assessments and physical health assessments when required
- Administrative tasks relevant to your clinical duties including medication prescribing, prescribing of discharge medications and other essential clinical documentations and communications with patients and other clinicians.
- Outpatient clinics work under supervision, following up investigations, monitoring and documenting patient progress and response to interventions.
- Facilitating discharge arrangements including writing discharge summaries
- Liaison with medical and surgical wards in the acute hospital
- Ensure regular and timely discussion of the clinical caseload with the supervising consultant.
- Ensure effective and timely documentation and communication of clinical decision making and management plans.
- To contribute to audit projects undertaken in the service and to attend appropriate audit meetings.

Senior medical input is provided by the consultant and a Specialty Doctor, who will provide additional clinical supervision to assist you with clinical casework and decision making.
There will be a minimum of one hour per week protected time for personal supervision.
Doctors have an allocated study budget and study leave allowance, to which Clinical Fellow doctors may apply.
The Adult ADHD Service Line within Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust comprises two key services: the Adult ADHD Service and the South East London (SEL) ADHD Referral Triage Service. The Adult ADHD Service provides assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for adults with ADHD across Bromley, Bexley, and Greenwich, operating from an administrative base at Queen Mary’s Hospital, Sidcup, with a hybrid model of face-to-face and remote assessments. The service initiates and titrates ADHD medication, offering annual reviews or additional reviews as clinically indicated, before transferring stable care to GPs. The SEL ADHD Referral Triage Service delivers a centralised referral system for ADHD assessments across six SEL boroughs, ensuring equitable access and streamlined triage. Both services work collaboratively with GPs, Mental Health Hubs, and secondary care teams to manage complex cases, reduce waiting times, and maintain high standards of care in line with NICE guidance.
General Responsibilities include:
- Maintaining good medical practice
- During the placement you may choose to follow the Psychiatry Specialty Curriculum and maintain an up-to-date learning portfolio that you will bring to meetings with the trainer when asked to do so. As a minimum, this will be at the beginning, mid-term and the end of the placement.
- Participation in undergraduate and postgraduate clinical teaching.
- Participation in the training of other disciplines.
- Taking part in continuing medical education.
- The local MRCPsych teaching programme in held on the last Wednesday of each month and is held in the Memorial Hospital, Shooters Hill, Woolwich, London SE18 3RG.
- Expected contribution to clinical governance and responsibility for setting and monitoring standards.
- Participation in clinical audit.
