Job Title: Sales Estimator
Company: Goldvale Steel Fabrications Ltd
Location: Goldvale Steel Fabrications, UK
Job Type: Full-time, permanent
Salary: Competitive, depending on experience
Hours: Monday to Friday
About the Role
Goldvale Steel Fabrications Ltd is looking for a capable Sales Estimator to join our growing team.
This is a key commercial role suited to someone who can read drawings, understand customer requirements, prepare accurate estimates, and help turn enquiries into profitable work. The role sits between estimating, sales, project coordination, and customer communication, so we need someone who is technically aware, commercially minded, organised, and confident dealing with clients.
The successful person does not need to be a traditional “sales rep”. We are looking for someone who can build trust with customers by understanding their requirements, pricing work properly, following up enquiries, and helping move jobs from enquiry stage through to order.
Key Responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
- Reviewing incoming enquiries, drawings, specifications, schedules, and client information.
- Preparing accurate estimates and quotations for structural steelwork, fabrication, and related packages.
- Liaising with customers to clarify scope, missing information, exclusions, lead times, and technical requirements.
- Following up issued quotations and helping convert suitable opportunities into orders.
- Working closely with management, estimating, detailing, purchasing, and production to ensure quoted work is realistic and commercially sound.
- Identifying risks, assumptions, exclusions, and opportunities within each enquiry.
- Maintaining clear records of enquiries, quotes, revisions, correspondence, and follow-up actions.
- Supporting order handover once a job is accepted.
- Helping improve estimating systems, quotation wording, rates, and commercial processes over time.
What We Are Looking For
The right person will ideally have:
- Experience in estimating, sales estimating, commercial coordination, steel fabrication, construction, engineering, or a similar technical environment.
- Ability to read and understand drawings, specifications, and schedules.
- Good commercial awareness and attention to detail.
- Confidence communicating with customers, suppliers, subcontractors, and internal teams.
- Strong organisation and follow-through.
- A practical mindset and willingness to learn.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Excel and general office systems.
- The ability to work under pressure while keeping estimates clear, accurate, and controlled.
Experience with structural steelwork, metalwork, fabrication, StruMIS, CAD drawings, or construction estimating would be a strong advantage, but training can be provided for the right person.
The Person
We are looking for someone who is:
- Reliable and self-motivated.
- Commercially aware, not just technically focused.
- Comfortable asking questions and challenging unclear information.
- Able to manage multiple enquiries at once.
- Professional with customers but practical with internal teams.
- Keen to develop into a valuable long-term member of the business.
What We Offer
- A full-time permanent role in a growing steel fabrication business.
- Opportunity to develop within estimating, sales, and commercial management.
- Direct involvement in real projects from enquiry through to order.
- Support and training from an experienced team.
- Competitive pay based on experience and capability.
- A practical working environment where good people can progress.
