About us:
Marquis Court is a residential care home in Sunderland, providing a warm, safe, and person-centred environment for the people who call it home. We believe that good care is built from the small things done consistently and well - and that a clean, comfortable, and welcoming home is part of that, not separate from it. Everything we do is guided by treating each resident with dignity, respect, and individuality, and supporting them to retain as much independence as possible. We look for people who share that same commitment, both to the residents we care for and to one another as colleagues, because everyone at Marquis Court - whatever their role - is working towards the same goal: the welfare and wellbeing of our residents.
POST OBJECTIVES
- To take overall responsibility for the domestic team and the standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the home.

- To manage, support and develop the domestic team so that residents experience a clean, comfortable, and dignified home.
- To work as a hands-on member of the domestic team, carrying out cleaning duties alongside overseeing and managing the team, leading by example on standards.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Team Leadership & Management

2. Hands-On Domestic & Cleaning Duties
In addition to managing the team, the Domestic Supervisor will regularly carry out domestic and cleaning duties themselves, working alongside the domestic team and leading by example. This includes:
- Making residents' beds, including stripping and changing covers as required.
- Cleaning toilets, bathrooms, and bathroom fittings thoroughly, including under seats and rims, and renewing toilet rolls.

- Vacuuming and hoovering rooms, hallways, staircases, and the lift as needed.
- Shampooing carpets and furnishings where there is spillage or incontinence.

- Checking lounges and communal areas regularly for stains, marks, or cleanliness issues that may not be visible during evening cleans.
- Undertaking any other cleaning or domestic duties reasonably required to maintain the home to a high standard.
3. Cleaning Standards & Operations

- Record the use of cleaning materials to ensure cost-effective use and minimise waste, and report any concerns to the Home Manager.
- Monitor the condition of cleaning and laundry equipment, arranging or reporting the need for repair or replacement.
- Ensure all cleaning chemicals are ordered, stored, and labelled in line with COSHH Regulations, with risk assessments kept up to date.
5. Quality, Audit & Compliance
- Carry out regular cleanliness and environment audits, tracking any actions identified through to completion.
- Ensure records and evidence relating to cleanliness and the home's environment are accurate and available to support CQC inspections.
- Support infection prevention and control (IPC) requirements, including outbreak cleaning protocols and terminal cleans.
- Ensure waste is segregated and disposed of in line with clinical and domestic waste regulations.
- Carry out Health & Safety walkarounds relevant to domestic areas (e.g. trip hazards, blocked fire exits, storage of chemicals).
- Gather and act on feedback from residents and families relating to the cleanliness and presentation of the home.
6. Communication & Reporting
- Use existing communication systems within the home to ensure relevant information is passed on to the wider staff team.
- Attend staff and management meetings, staff supervisions, and training/development activities as directed.
- Escalate to the Home Manager: anything CQC-notifiable, any conduct or performance concerns that may need formal action, unusual or significant spend, and any safeguarding concerns.
