About the role
As Head of English, you will provide strategic leadership for the department, ensuring high-quality teaching, an ambitious curriculum and excellent outcomes for students across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.
You will lead a team of committed professionals, driving continuous improvement through effective curriculum planning, staff development and a relentless focus on student achievement.
Key responsibilities include:

Leading the strategic direction and development of the English department
- Ensuring consistently high-quality teaching and learning across all key stages
- Developing and refining an ambitious and engaging English curriculum
- Monitoring student progress and implementing effective intervention strategies
- Leading, supporting and developing colleagues within the department
- Using assessment and performance data to raise attainment and achievement
- Promoting a culture of high expectations, excellence and inclusion
- Contributing to whole-school improvement priorities and the wider life of the academy
Person specification
The successful candidate will:

Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Have a degree in English or a related subject
- Demonstrate successful teaching across Key Stages 3 and 4, with Key Stage 5 experience desirable
- Have the ability to lead, motivate and develop colleagues effectively
- Possess strong organisational, communication and interpersonal skills
- Have a proven commitment to raising standards and improving outcomes
- Be skilled in using data to inform teaching and drive student success
- Be committed to inclusive education and high expectations for all learners
