About Us
Torry Hill Farm is a family owned 3500-acre estate located in the North Kent Downs National Landscape, between Lenham and Sittingbourne. The estate includes a herd of Traditional Sussex cattle (70 head plus followers), and a growing sheep flock. The estate has long committed to an extensive Countryside Stewardship Scheme and is now embarking on an ambitious new project to convert 100 hectares of arable land to restored downland grass. The estate also includes an arable enterprise and substantial forestry enterprise.
We are now seeking an Assistant Livestock Manager to join our team.
The Role
Working closely with our Herd Manager, you will assist in overseeing the day-to-day welfare, health, and management of our cattle and sheep, fulfilling the following roles:
- Livestock husbandry: Undertaking daily feeding routines, bedding, lookering, administering basic treatments or vaccinations, and assisting with lambing and calving including providing relief on some weekends and during holidays.
- Machinery: Safely operating tractors and telehandlers for feeding, bedding, and general field operations including forage production.
- Land management: Assisting with the establishment and maintenance of grassland and other areas under Countryside Stewardship, fencing, water and agricultural repairs.
The Individual
We are looking to recruit an experienced and enthusiastic individual with the following attributes:
- Proven experience in sheep husbandry, management and health including lambing and livestock administration.
- Experience in cattle management would be an advantage
- An energetic and self- motivated outlook, with an aptitude for problem solving and collaborative working.
- An ability to work independently, and within a team
- Good organisational skills
- Proficiency and qualifications in operating routine agricultural machinery, including a telehandler, tractors and towing trailers
- A practical ability to manage and repair equipment, fencing, water pipes etc.
- Competence in relevant health and safety legislation applicable to the role
- Full driving licence
- NPTC Chainsaw certificate would be an advantage
The Package
- £35,000 salary

- Daily working hours are a minimum of 8 am to 5 pm but variable depending on the demands of the role, and include some weekend and out of hours duties for lambing and calving and as required
Holiday entitlement is 23 days annually plus bank holidays
