Location: Hull, UK
Employment Type: Permanent | Full-Time
Salary: Competitive, based on experience
Reference: GMPM/Eng/26/001
GMP Manufacturing Ltd is a growing organisation based in Hull, holding a Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Licence (MIA), ISO Medical Devices (13485) and Cosmetic Certification (22716). We supply a diverse portfolio of medicinal, medical devices and cosmetic products to multiple markets, underpinned by strong regulatory compliance and quality standards.
As part of our continued growth, we are seeking a highly capable Multi-Skilled Engineer to join our Engineering team. This is a hands-on role responsible for the installation, maintenance, fault-finding, and repair of production and facility equipment, with a particular bias towards electrical engineering. You will play a key role in maximising equipment uptime, supporting new equipment installations, and ensuring plant and machinery operate safely and reliably in a regulated pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
We are looking for a proactive, safety-conscious engineer with strong electrical fault-finding ability, a solid grounding in mechanical engineering, and a practical, can-do approach to problem-solving on the shop floor.
Job Summary
The Multi-Skilled Engineer will provide day-to-day electrical and mechanical engineering support across manufacturing, packing, and facilities equipment, carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive breakdown repairs, and equipment improvements.
The role requires strong electrical fault-finding skills (control panels, PLCs, motors, drives, instrumentation), working mechanical knowledge (pumps, seals, bearings, pneumatics), and the ability to work safely and compliantly within a GMP-regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out electrical fault-finding, diagnostics, and repairs on production and packing line equipment, control panels, motors, drives, and instrumentation
- Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive breakdown maintenance across mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems
- Support installation, commissioning, and validation of new plant, machinery, and equipment
- Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and P&IDs to diagnose and resolve faults efficiently
- Carry out basic PLC fault diagnosis and liaise with controls engineers/OEMs on more complex issues
- Undertake mechanical tasks including pump, seal, bearing, and gearbox maintenance and repair
- Ensure all work is carried out safely, in line with GMP, health & safety, and site permit-to-work requirements
- Complete accurate maintenance records, work orders, and technical documentation, including as part of the system
- Support root cause analysis investigations for equipment-related deviations and drive corrective actions
- Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities to enhance equipment reliability and reduce downtime
- Collaborate with Production, Technical, and Quality teams to minimise disruption to manufacturing schedules
- Participate in an on-call/callout rota to support business continuity (where applicable)
Desirable
- Recognised electrical engineering qualification
- Proven multi-skilled maintenance experience with a bias towards electrical engineering, ideally within pharmaceutical, medical device, cosmetic, food, or FMCG manufacturing
- Working knowledge of PLCs and industrial control systems
- Solid understanding of mechanical maintenance principles
- Experience working in a GMP-regulated or other highly regulated manufacturing environment
- Understanding of health & safety requirements including permit-to-work
