St Nicks Community Recycling Scheme
The St Nicks Community Recycling Scheme is an award-winning zero emissions kerbside service using an electric vehicle and load-bearing tricycles. We currently provide a recycling service to over 3500 households within the city walls and to an expanding number of businesses in York.
We are looking for an enthusiastic person to work alongside our existing Community Recycling Workers to carry out collections and help develop the scheme.
Scope of the job
Based at York Environment Centre, the work will involve carrying out recycling collections and helping to develop the scheme.
Your duties will include:
- carrying out doorstep collections of recyclable materials using an electric vehicle and load bearing pedal trike
- encouraging households and businesses to recycle more with St Nicks
- sorting recyclable materials
- composting garden waste
- driving the electric vehicles
- riding load bearing tricycles used for recycling collection
- sorting, weighing and recording recyclable materials;
- helping to promote the scheme to local householders and businesses
- adhering to Health and Safety procedures at the work place
- helping with the maintenance of equipment used in the scheme
- helping to develop the recycling scheme (residential and businesses)
- attending training courses as necessary
- other duties to support the functioning of St Nicks as and when required

Your normal working pattern is likely to be Monday and Friday 8am-1.15pm however, we may need to vary these days and hours depending on service requirements. Extra hours will be available depending on holiday leave, sick cover and extra jobs the Recycling Team take on such as event recycling for example.
We have either 10 or 15 hours available a week. Overtime will be organised on top of this as and when required.
