Pre-production Engineer / Senior Pre-production Engineer
Job Brief
NFF Precision are seeking a Pre-production Engineer to support the business through the pre-production stages of manufacturing. The role will involve preparing accurate cost estimates and quotations, reviewing customer drawings and specifications, planning manufacturing processes, and ensuring all technical and commercial requirements are understood before work is released to production.
You will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure projects are accurately planned, costed, and documented. You will need a good understanding of engineering drawings, specifications, Bills of Materials (BOMs), manufacturing processes, and material requirements, together with the ability to identify potential risks, costs, and opportunities for improvement.
The role is well suited to an experienced Pre-production Engineer or an engineer looking to progress within a manufacturing environment.
Key Duties
- Prepare accurate cost estimates and quotations based on customer specifications, drawings, BOMs, and manufacturing requirements.
- Plan appropriate manufacturing processes, routing, and material requirements to support efficient production.
- Liaise directly with customers to clarify technical requirements, specifications, and delivery requirements.
- Liaise with suppliers to obtain accurate pricing, lead times, material availability, and relevant technical information.
- Support projects through contract review and pre-production, ensuring all technical, commercial, quality, and manufacturing requirements are understood and documented.
- Identify potential manufacturing risks, cost implications, and technical issues through the review of drawings, specifications, BOMs, and customer requirements.
Other Duties
- Maintain accurate records and information within the businesses MRP system.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within pre-production and manufacturing processes.
- Contribute to internal meetings, project reviews, contract reviews, and project kick-off meetings.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures, quality standards, and health & safety requirements.
- Support the business in achieving cost, quality, delivery, and customer satisfaction objectives.
- Senior members of staff will be expected to assist in continuous improvement activities.
Essential Attributes
- Relevant Engineering qualification or equivalent manufacturing experience.
- Good understanding of engineering drawings, specifications, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Experience of preparing cost estimates, quotations, or manufacturing-related costs.
- Good understanding of manufacturing processes and production methods.
- Good numerical and analytical skills with a high level of accuracy.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively with customers, suppliers, and internal departments.
- Good computer skills and experience using Microsoft Office applications.
- Good organisational and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Proactive and self-motivated, with a desire to achieve agreed cost, quality, and delivery objectives.
Desirable Attributes
- Previous experience in a pre-production, estimating, manufacturing engineering, or production engineering role.
- Experience with contract review and production release processes.
- Experience with CNC machining, fabrication/welding, or other engineering manufacturing processes.

Pay: £35,000.00-£45,000.00 per year
