Revenues Team Leader
Lead an award-winning Revenues team and play a key role in delivering an excellent service to our residents and businesses.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Revenues professional to join our high-performing service as a Revenues Team Leader. Reporting to the Revenues Operations Manager, you will provide day-to-day leadership to a team of Revenues professionals, ensuring the delivery of an efficient, customer-focused and compliant Council Tax and Business Rates service.
This role combines people management, technical expertise and service improvement, offering the opportunity to influence policy, support operational excellence and help shape the future of the Revenues Service. What you'll be doing
As Revenues Team Leader, you will:
- Lead and manage the day-to-day operation of the Revenues Team.
- Inspire, motivate and develop staff, ensuring performance targets and service standards are consistently achieved.
- Monitor team performance and quality, supporting staff through regular supervision, coaching, appraisals and training.
- Provide expert technical advice on complex cases, legislation, case law and policy interpretation.
- Manage complaints and escalated enquiries, including Ombudsman investigations, MP and Member enquiries, and Valuation Tribunal cases.
- Lead on the implementation of new legislation, policy changes and discretionary decision-making, including Section 13A Council Tax Reduction applications.
- Represent the Council at tribunals, court hearings and other external forums where required.
- Oversee key financial controls, performance reporting, refunds, write-offs and statutory returns.
What we're looking for
We're looking for a confident and knowledgeable Revenues professional with:
- Significant experience within a Revenues environment.
- Strong technical knowledge of Council Tax legislation.
- Experience leading, motivating and developing teams.
- Excellent communication, analytical and decision-making skills.
- Experience handling complex casework, complaints and appeals.
- The ability to interpret legislation and translate it into practical service delivery.
- A commitment to delivering excellent customer service and continuous improvement.
