Overview
We are seeking a dedicated, knowledgeable, and community-focused Imam to lead and support the spiritual, educational, and pastoral needs of the mosque and its congregation. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong Islamic knowledge, excellent character, and the ability to engage positively with worshippers of all ages.
Candidates must be followers of the Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama‘ah Hanafi Barelwi teachings.
Key Responsibilities
Religious Leadership
- Lead the five daily congregational prayers consistently and punctually.
- Deliver one Jumu’ah khutbah and lead Jumu’ah prayer once per month.
- Lead Taraweeh prayers during Ramadan (where applicable).
- Conduct Janazah prayers and provide related religious support to families.
- Officiate Islamic ceremonies including Nikah and other religious services as required.
Teaching & Education
- Teach children and adults in the madrassah according to the mosque curriculum.
- Deliver Islamic lessons, reminders, and educational programmes.
- Support the Islamic development and tarbiyah of students and congregants.
- Encourage Quran recitation, memorisation, and understanding.
Community & Pastoral Support
- Provide religious guidance and counselling to members of the community.
- Visit the sick, elderly, and bereaved when required.
- Support youth engagement and community cohesion initiatives.
- Be approachable and available for general Islamic enquiries.
Mosque Duties
- Maintain the dignity, cleanliness, and sanctity of the mosque environment.
- Assist with organising Islamic events and programmes throughout the year.
- Work collaboratively with the mosque committee and volunteers.
- Ensure all duties expected of an Imam are fulfilled professionally and responsibly.
Essential Requirements
- Sound knowledge of the Qur’an, Sunnah, Fiqh, and Islamic studies.
- Ability to lead prayers with correct Tajweed and clear recitation.
- Previous experience serving as an Imam and/or teacher in a mosque or madrassah.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong moral character, professionalism, and reliability.
- Fluency in English preferred; additional languages are beneficial.
