The Opportunity
An established and busy engineering manufacturer based near Heywood is seeking an experienced Manual Vertical Borer to join its skilled machining team. This is an excellent opportunity for a time-served machinist looking for a secure, long-term position with regular overtime and a strong workload.
The successful candidate will be responsible for operating large manual vertical boring machines, including Webster Bennett 60”, 72”, and 120” machines, producing high-quality precision components to engineering specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate manual vertical boring machines, including Webster Bennett 60”, 72”, and 120” models
- Set up and machine large fabricated and cast components
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
- Machine components to tight tolerances and quality standards
- Use precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, verniers, and gauges
- Carry out machine set-ups, tooling adjustments, and tool changes
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organised working environment
Candidate Requirements
- Proven experience operating manual vertical borers is essential
- Previous experience with Webster Bennett machines is highly desirable
- Ability to machine large, heavy engineering components
- Strong understanding of engineering drawings, tolerances, and machining practices
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and manage workloads effectively
- Time-served apprenticeship or recognised machining qualification would be advantageous
