We are looking for an enthusiastic, confident and self-motivated individual to become the face of our artisan bakery shop within The Market.
This is not a typical retail role. You will often be working independently and will take ownership of the day-to-day operation of the bakery shop. We are looking for someone who enjoys speaking with customers, takes pride in delivering exceptional service, and is naturally curious about food, baking and local produce.
You should be the type of person who can strike up a conversation with anyone, tell the story behind a product, and create an experience that customers remember.
The Role
As the primary team member within the bakery shop, you will be responsible for serving customers, maintaining displays, managing stock and ensuring the shop operates to the highest standards.
You will be expected to develop a strong understanding of the products we sell, where they come from, how they are made and what makes them special. Customers should leave not only with great food but with a better understanding of the producers and products behind it.
During quieter periods, we encourage team members to take initiative by researching new products, local suppliers, industry trends and ideas that could help improve the business and customer experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Opening and closing the bakery shop.
- Delivering friendly, knowledgeable and engaging customer service.
- Building relationships with regular customers and creating a welcoming atmosphere.
- Learning and maintaining a strong knowledge of all products sold within the bakery.
- Promoting local producers and artisan suppliers.
- Maintaining attractive product displays and high standards of presentation.
- Processing sales and handling cash and card transactions.
- Monitoring stock levels and assisting with stock management.
- Maintaining cleanliness and food hygiene standards.
- Undertaking basic administrative tasks and record keeping.
- Researching new products, suppliers and opportunities to enhance the bakery offering.
- Suggesting ideas and improvements to help grow sales and improve the customer experience.
- Acting as an ambassador for both the bakery and The Market.
About You
You will:
- Be confident, friendly and naturally engaging.
- Enjoy speaking to customers and building relationships.
- Be comfortable working independently and managing your own workload.
- Have excellent communication skills.
- Be passionate about food, baking, local produce or artisan products.
- Have a genuine desire to learn about the products you are selling.
- Be proactive and capable of using your own initiative.
- Be organised, reliable and trustworthy.
- Have basic administrative and computer skills.
- Take pride in maintaining high standards in everything you do.
- Be well-presented and professional at all times.
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience in retail, hospitality, food service or customer-facing roles.
- Experience operating a till or point-of-sale system.
- Knowledge of artisan food, coffee, baking or local producers.
- Experience working independently and taking ownership of a workspace.
- Being able to drive and have access to own vehicle would be advantageous
